I just filled out my FAFSA. School starts next Wednesday. I haven't registered for classes yet. I hope they approve my financial aid appeal.

I should be nervous: I'm not.

Everything will be ok?

300 was a bad movie...

It's no secret that I love the history channel. Now I've talked to a lot of people about this topic, but I'm bored and I think it would be cool to post it online. Whenever I have some spare time in-between things to do, or some down time from work or whatnot, I like to think about different eras of history and what occupation and/or role in society I would fulfill.

Some examples:
King Richard launches his third crusade
The onset of Vietnam
Rome in the 2nd century
The Civil War
Feudal Japan
Colonial India in the 1800s
The Caribbean circa 1700

What would your job be? What profession would you acquire? Would you have a claim to fame?

The aspect that makes this activity so interesting to me is the attempt, and subsequently varying degrees of willing suspension of disbelief (and even lack thereof). In other words, it's safe and easy to say you would be a staunch anti-slavery Union soldier in the Civil War, but that's boring, isn't it? A much better story: "I would be a corporal in the squad doing guard detail the night Stonewall Jackson fell to friendly fire. Instead of Stonewall dying, I would identify him and his officers, thereby circumventing the incident." Think of the ramifications of such an action; What a story you could make of that! The Confederates could go on to win at Appottomattox and Gettysberg, Sherman's march wouldn't have happened, Jefferson Davis would be considered a "Founding Father", the United States wouldn't be United.... so many possibilities!

So I hope you can take some time to put your knowledge of history and your storytelling abilities to the test, or at the very least just chime in with the "I would be ____ during ____ era because of _____" and we can have a discussion. Feel free to use one of my historical references, or pick one of your own.

Oh, and we're all going to play lasertag at adventure landing tomorrow (mon 5/28). Come out & play. It's only $8.50 for the whole day.

Unsatisfactory...

...is the grade I'm getting in ENG 410A. I've tried my best to make things work in that class, but man! I think this teacher honestly does not want me to pass. I tried to turn in two papers to her on Friday, and she never showed up to her office (I scheduled an appointment a week in advance). Now I find out that I have lost 23% of my final grade before I have handed in anything in that class. I'd have to get perfect marks from now on just to get a C. So, I have changed my class to credit only and I am not going to show up again.

ARGH! This is really annoying.

This has been one hell of a week! Actually, Thursday and Friday have been one hell of a week =)

So let's recap-
Monday: I tried to go to class, but I spent 3 hours on a CAT bus that left me in the middle of downtown Raleigh. Oh, and I lost 3 points of my final grade for ENG410 for being absent too many times. How lame is that.
Tuesday: I went to class and stuff.
Wednesday: I skipped all of my classes (big surprise).
Thursday: EC431 test and DJ training
Friday: appointments from 7:30-10:30, EC471 exam, 2 papers due, WKNC radio show, and office hours

I've had 3 shots of espresso and I still wanna go to bed (argh). Anyways, call me after 6pm if you wanna know whats going down at my place.

So I know I haven't updated this thing in over a month, and with that said I want to let the few of you that read this know that I am keeping up with </i>your</i> journals. Nevertheless, this post will be very short, and much to my dismay, somewhat emo. I have turned comments off because I don't really want to hear if you sympathize with me, and heaven knows I could care less about your criticisms. I just feel that it has to be done this way, because I just have an inclination to share this thought at this moment.

I am not the man that I should be; If I do not improve, I do not deserve to be.

Oh, and I could use a ride back to my apartment from campus around 6pm today =)

I Really Shouldn't Cut Myself

Just a foreword: I don't mean to rant excessively on this thing, but I just can't seem to avoid it.

With that said, this past week has been somewhat of a living hell for me. Something potentially life-altering has happened, and the uncertainty is bearing down on me. The next two months are going to determine the course of my life for quite some time.

As for what happened, the only thing I will tell anyone at this point is that it is not positive in the slightest. My apologies for the ambiguity, but I'm writing this not so much to inform you of my situation, but rather as an attempt to cope with the calm before the storm.

“Strength is born in the deep silence of long-suffering hearts; not amid joy.”
Arthur Helps

So, out of my gaming laziness, I haven't shaved for a week, and I've come to this conclusion: I'm going to try and grow a beard.

Now, just a little warning.
